Welcome to the family Maisy Rae!
Here is our new kitty, Maisy. We adopted her from the Humane Society on Saturday. Maisy is 7 months old and 5 lbs big. She is very sweet and loving, and is tolerant of the dogs, at least from her perch on her cat tree. I'm so glad that we found her!

Garden Kitty Angels
Here are the beautiful garden angel kitty statues that I had made to memorialize my cats Guinan (left) and Thelma-Louise. I plan to plant climbing David Austin roses up an arch and place the kitties nearby. I have a second year perennial garden growing, and my husband will be making raised beds for his Heirloom vegetables this year. I love cottage gardens, and if you're growing one, please share your blog links with me.
I found these angel treasures on Etsy. Please check out: PhenomeGNOME . She did a wonderful job and gave me great service!

Rest in peace Guinan ?1990-2009

Cuddling in 2006

We lost our oldest cat, Guinan yesterday. She was about twenty years old, and she was failing, so we had to put her down. It was a bad and sad day and she is really missed. My husband had her almost her entire life. I was privileged to be her Mama for two and a half years.
Guinan was a gutsy, sassy girl. She was very bossy about mealtimes, and in the morning she would pat your face with her foot until you woke up and fed her. This was not always gentle, and it could result in little scratches. Once you were up,she would escort you down each step of the staircase, looking up into your face to ensure that you were with the breakfast program.
She was very stubborn and we used to joke that the roof could fall down around her and she still wouldn't move from her chosen spot. She loved sunshine and flowers. We thought that she could levitate because she could always find a way to chew a bouquet of flowers, no matter how high up we placed them. She loved to be put in the window overlooking the back yard, so she could sit in the sun, be petted and oversee the goings on outside.
After I got home from work, Guinan would come and sit with me and cuddle up under my chin. She slept at the foot of my side of the bed. At the vet's they said that we were lucky to had a cat with such a great spirit. I will always love her.

Last Thursday, eight library teens , my lovely and talented co-worker Suzie and I spent an hour learning to knit or crochet a Snuggle blanket for local homeless cats. Suzie is super at both needle crafts and got the teens into it. I can muddle by with crochet, and showed them the rose and pink Snuggle I had produced over about three Desperate Housewives episodes the night before. We intend to donate our handiwork to a no-kill cat shelter in Saint Paul called Feline Rescue. Another library friend, Amy, is a shelter volunteer and tells me about the lovely kitties who live there, such as Daisy Mae (above).
The patterns for Snuggle making can be simple and don't require much yarn (mine took 1 skein) and cats and dogs aren't critical of your stitches. In spite of my imperfect handiwork, my cat Thelma at home was crazy to try out the Snuggle as it emerged.

Swell black kitty
My favorite kind of Halloween decoration: the black cat! I wonder how old this one is?
